Youth Softball Programs at the CRA
The CRA offers a dynamic in-season softball program in the spring. Players participate in leagues designed for different age groups and skill levels, from beginner players to more competitive teams. These leagues focus on developing both fundamental skills and advanced techniques while fostering an environment of fun and learning.
In addition to league fees, a General Junior Membership is required through the end of the season. If you don’t have a current membership, you’ll be prompted to purchase one during registration.
Mike Cooney Softball League
Coaches pitch league for girls in grades Pre-K – 1. This is an instructional league using a safety softball. No score and standings are kept. Weekly practices and games are Saturday afternoons and occasional weeknights at Pinegrove Park. The season runs May through June.
Midget Softball League
Softball league for girls in grades 2 – 4. It is an instructional league with score and league standings kept. Games will be Saturday mornings and weeknights at Pinegrove Park or Chamberlain. Teams may practice once per week and umpires are provided. The season runs May through June.
Junior Softball League
Softball league for girls in grades 5-8. Score and league standings are kept. Bunting and stealing are allowed. Games are one weeknight and Saturday mornings at Pinegrove Park. Teams may practice once per week. The season runs May through June.
Travel Softball League
Our Travel Softball program provides players with the opportunity to compete at a higher level through the Berkshire County Youth Softball League. This competitive girls travel league allows young athletes to test their skills against teams from surrounding communities, offering valuable experience in tournament-style play.
The program is designed for players who want to take their game to the next level, with intensive practice sessions, team-building activities, and competitive games. Travel Softball is perfect for those looking to challenge themselves while making lasting memories with teammates.
The CRA sponsors a U10, U12, and U14 travel team and player’s age is based on their age as of August 31 of the prior year. The season runs June through August and a player must attend at least one tryout to participate on a team.

About Our Youth Softball Players
Youth softball players at the CRA come from throughout the Central Berkshires, including Pittsfield, Dalton, Lanesborough, and Hinsdale. They join the program eager to develop their softball skills, teamwork, and confidence. Kids love the fun, fast-paced practices and games, where they not only improve in throwing, fielding, and hitting but also form lasting friendships. The CRA fosters a welcoming community, helping kids enjoy healthy competition and build a love for the sport.
